Gail Altschuler’s Matisse Dancers I is hand crafted in porcelain. Inspired by Matisse’s jazz cut outs, Gail playfully translates this into ceramics. Dimensions – 14 x 8 cm.
Created using the Mishima inlay technique Gail inscribes the surface of the porcelain before filling with an underglaze. The surface is then scraped away to reveal her engraved drawing. Washes of coloured underglaze are painted on before finally the vase is coated in transparent glaze and fired.
