The Matter of Time by Richard Serra. Once described as the only living great artist, Serra started making his sculptures out of nontraditional, often industrial materials in the early 60s. This piece, commissioned in 2005, is honed from 1034 tonnes of steel. The installation takes the spectator through the evolution of the artist’s sculpted forms, from a simple double ellipse to toruses and spheres that dictate the viewer’s movement and perception. Shifting in unexpected ways as viewers walk in and around them, these sculptures create a dizzying, unforgettable sensation of space in motion. #objet_d_emotion
