This 1960s aquamarine forma livre and textured 18 karat gold ring is by Burle Marx.
Roberto Burle Marx (1909 -1994), the Brazilian artist, jewellery designer and world-renowned landscape architect, and his brother Haroldo (1911-1991), a jeweller, lapidary and gemologist, worked together on jewellery designs during the 1960s and 70s.
Our ring with its distinct mini-sculptural qualities, partly granulated surface treatment and edged contour lines strongly follows Roberto Burle Marx’s large-scale abstract sculptures, paintings and landscape designs. .
For many decades Haroldo ran a fine jewellery shop on the Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro and later expanded the business to Washington. His clients included European royalty and many wealthy jewellery lovers of the time.
