Golden Wheel, 2011: polyurethane, paint, graphite, collage and stickers.  This Buddha is one of eight created by contemporary Tibetan artist Gonkar Gyatso, cast in resin and covered in stickers, drawings and collaged elements. Gyatso uses traditional Tibetan visual motifs, such as thangka painting, in an apparently light-hearted vein.  In his signature technique, he applies hundreds of stickers to an object (often a Buddha figure) to juxtapose images from mass media with Buddhist iconography.
